How to measure chain slack on the MT-07 :
- Place the Yamaha MT07 on a flat surface without adding extra weight to the motorcycle.
- Put the motorcycle in neutral.
- Measure the distance from the chain guide to the center of the chain as shown. Using the side stand, the correct distance from the swingarm to the center of the chain should be between 51 and 56mm. With a rear stand, the distance should be between 56 and 61mm.
How to adjust chain slack on the MT-07:
- Loosen the locknut at each end of the Yamaha MT-07 swingarm.
- Loosen the axle nut on the left side using a 27mm socket. Do not remove the axle nut completely.
- To tighten the chain, turn the 12mm adjusting nut clockwise. To loosen the chain, turn the adjusting nut counterclockwise, then push the rear wheel forward.
- Check the chain slack after each complete turn of the tension nut.
- Adjust the chain evenly on both sides of the swingarm using the measurement alignment marks on each side of the swingarm as a reference.
- Tighten the 27mm axle nut to 105Nm.
- Tighten the two 12mm locknuts to 16Nm.
- Check the chain tension again.
