How to measure chain slack on the CB650R:
- Put the gearbox in neutral.
- Place the Honda CB650R on its side stand on a flat surface to adjust the chain correctly.
- Push the lower part of the chain down and check the clearance between the chain and the swingarm at the right end of the chain guide located under the swingarm. The correct distance between the swingarm and the center of the chain on the Honda CB650R should be between 25 and 35mm.
How to adjust chain slack on Honda CB650R:
- Loosen the left and right chain adjuster locknuts of the Honda CB650R with a 12mm wrench.
- Loosen the axle nut using a 27mm socket and 22mm counter on the other side of the axle. Do not remove the axle nut completely.
- To tighten the Honda CB650R chain , turn the 10mm adjuster nut clockwise. To loosen the chain, turn the adjuster nut counterclockwise, then push the rear wheel forward.
- Check the chain slack after every quarter turn of the tension nut.
- Adjust the chain slack evenly on the Honda CB650R, on both sides of the swingarm using the alignment gauge levels located on each side of the swingarm.
- Tighten the 12mm locknuts.
- Tighten the 27mm axle nut to 98Nm.
- Check the chain play again.
